Curatorial Description
Umbral de Fuego represents one of the most intense and architectural compositions in ORENDAIN's visual repertoire. Here, the artist organizes the canvas as a space of transit, a passageway, where blocks of color and material textures evoke walls, doorways, and symbolic borders. The burnt orange background, reminiscent of the incandescent surface of the desert or the sky at sunset, frames a set of geometric shapes that appear to float among ruins and emerging structures.
The gold and black rectangles contrast not only in tone and texture, but also in meaning: the sacred versus the hidden, the revealed versus the closed. The presence of gold leaf, so characteristic of the artist's work, suggests a spiritual dimension that breaks through the material remains of what was once solid. The brushstrokes, at times controlled and at others overwhelming, reveal the violence of time, the erosion of form, and the persistence of memory.
This Threshold is not literal, but metaphorical. It is a crossing point, a boundary that can be interpreted as a rite of passage: from chaos to order, from the profane to the spiritual, from darkness to brilliance. In this transition, the viewer is suspended in the tension between permanence and transformation.
The work engages with influences from Latin American abstract expressionism and geometric abstraction, while remaining deeply personal. In this work, they don't construct landscapes; they create interior spaces where fire doesn't burn, but purifies.
