Curatorial Description
Tree of Hope encapsulates the vital and symbolic impulse that runs through Orendain's work: the search for the sacred within geometry, for life contained in abstract form, and for light as possibility. The composition is articulated from a palette rich in greens, reminiscent of the organic, the earthly, and the fertile. From this base, geometric shapes and vertical structures emerge, reminiscent of branches, trunks, or ascending paths, traced with warm yellow tones and golden modulations. In the center, an irregular fragment of gold leaf dominates the plane with a texture reminiscent of bark, a footprint, or a geological cut. This golden fragment acts as a symbol of the vital core—a vegetal, mineral, or spiritual heart—that pulsates amidst the pictorial silence.
The scattered drops and floating contours in the lower left corner reinforce the idea of moisture, germination, and dormancy. The work, without directly illustrating a tree, suggests it from its essence: a vertical axis that supports, unites, and gives meaning to the rest of the elements. In this form, the idea of hope is projected as something that grows despite the environment, connecting the celestial with the earthly.
With Tree of Hope, ORENDAIN reminds us that even in the most abstract and restrainedly geometric languages, there is room for the affective, the symbolic, and the deeply human.
