Curatorial Description
Ancient Root is a visual evocation of sedimented time. In this work, ORENDAIN constructs an abstract topography where the dominant verticality, in reddish earth tones, becomes a structural and symbolic axis: a root that traverses layers of memory, history, and matter. The colors—ochre, brown, cream, and black—converse with a gold leaf that, far from serving as a decorative background, manifests itself as a sacred stratum that erupts from deep within.
The geometry present—squares, rectangles, and delimited organic shapes—acts as traces of civilization: fragments of an ancient language, vestiges of a forgotten architecture. The textures are dense, material, almost archaeological, and appear to have been revealed rather than painted. The use of color recalls walls eroded by time, damp earth, pre-Columbian codices and reliefs, while maintaining a contemporary and clean aesthetic.
As in other works by the artist, the spiritual and the material are in tension and harmony. The painting doesn't describe, but suggests. It doesn't narrate, but summons. Raíz Antigua invites the viewer to connect with the essential: what remains beneath the surface, silent, but alive.
