Curatorial Description
In The Birth of Adonis , a symbolic and mythical narrative unfolds through a geometric composition that evokes the gestation of the divine in the material. Inspired by the Greek myth of the young Adonis, a symbol of ephemeral beauty and cyclical rebirth, the artist creates a pictorial space where the organic and the abstract coexist in restrained harmony.
The piece is structured through a superposition of rectangular and square shapes in earthy tones, mustard, and burgundy red, floating against a warm, almost uterine background. The incorporation of an ascending line in gold leaf—reminiscent of a stem or bud—suggests the exact moment when life bursts, golden, into the fabric of existence.
ORENDAIN remains faithful to an aesthetic that intertwines spirituality and geometry. Here, gold not only illuminates but also fertilises. The forms are not merely plastic structures, but latent signs of a natural order that, like Adonis, is reborn with each season.
With this work, the artist once again reflects on the balance between the contained and the spontaneous, the rational and the vital. A painting that, through abstraction, speaks to us of origin, desire, and the eternal cycle of inner blossoming.
