Curatorial Description
Gigante is part of a subtle and atmospheric language, where the image breaks down into glazes and pigments that evoke dust, silence, and memory. The work emerges as a diffuse, almost dreamlike landscape, with no clear horizon, but rather a series of specks that float between the earthly and the spiritual.
The predominant tones—ochre, terracotta, and reddish—suggest an arid, ancient environment, as if the canvas had absorbed centuries of sun and wind. Unlike other works by the artist, which clearly employ geometric structures or vibrant contrasts, here form dissolves into matter, and the material is transformed into breath. The brushstroke seems more like an exhalation that deposits pigment, a restrained technique that evokes the serenity of Japanese art and respect for impermanence.
This work can be read as a meditation on frozen time, traces, and erosion. The gold leaf is partially hidden in the background, as if the light were aged or buried, reminding the viewer that even the sacred and immense wear away with age.
Gigante is, ultimately, a work of contemplation and contemplation. Its power lies in what it suggests rather than what it shows, in that blurred boundary where the visible dissolves into the essential.
