Curatorial Description
Vestige of Gold is a composition that unfolds like an archaeological wall, laden with symbols, pigments, and fragments of light. The painting operates as a palimpsest where the contemporary and the ancestral intertwine: textured rectangles, planes of saturated color, and a white background that acts as a visual passage or fissure.
Here, ORENDAIN employs a warm, earthy palette—ochres, siennas, mineral blacks, and vibrant yellows—to construct a visual language reminiscent of Mesoamerican reliefs, ancient frescoes, or codice fragments. The gold leaf, applied with restraint and precision, becomes a sacred accent: a luminous memory that refuses to disappear between layers of time.
The geometric organization, although strict, does not impose rigidity; on the contrary, it suggests broken order, a syntax that has been eroded by history and transformed into a trace. The textures, which in some cases appear engraved or stamped, reinforce the tactile and material sensation of the work.
With Vestigio del Oro , ORENDAIN not only continues his exploration of spiritual abstraction and formal symbolism, but also poses a reflection on the persistence of the sacred in the everyday, on the possibility of finding vestiges of gold—literal and metaphorical—in the invisible layers of the present.
