Curatorial Description
Solar Fragment is a work in which Orendain synthesizes his aesthetic exploration through geometric forms suspended in a field of intense light. Gold leaf, the absolute protagonist of the central plane, merges with a fluid geometry in ochre, sienna, and ivory tones, while blocks of black, brick, and terracotta are organized like symbols within a silent architecture.
The painting evokes an ancestral language, as if each rectangle were a forgotten inscription or symbol that still holds a spiritual charge. The composition combines elements of stability (rigid squares, alignments) with more sensorial gestures: glazes, stains, and textures that suggest a ritual wall or codex fragment. The black functions as an interruption, a visual pause that forces the eye to pause, while the gold emanates a radiance that evokes the mysticism of the solar and the eternal.
Unlike the artist's other works, which are more gestural, Solar Fragment is carefully restrained, as if time had been frozen so that the forms could coexist in balance. The work is simultaneously minimalist and symbolic, revealing a compositional maturity that translates materiality into visual spirituality.
This piece belongs to a line within ORENDAIN's work that dialogues with the history of pre-Columbian art, modern design, and the symbolic forms of the collective unconscious.
