Curatorial Description
Column of Time is a work that displays a rhythmic and symbolic verticality, condensing multiple layers of visual language: from the expressive use of color to the geometric containment of forms that appear to settle along an axial axis. The composition revolves around a dark central column, a kind of visual vertebra that articulates floating fragments of yellow, green, terracotta, black, and gold.
The diluted earth-toned background acts as an atmospheric field charged with history and pigment, upon which the forms appear to have been deposited as architectural vestiges or ritual symbols. Each figure—rectangles, irregular blocks, fragments of gold leaf—is positioned as part of a discontinuous narrative: a system of symbols that the viewer cannot read, but can intuit.
Gold leaf, as in many of the artist's pieces, serves here as a visual and spiritual anchor, inserting a sacred dimension between the material blocks. The balance between chaos and structure, between impulse and design, results in a composition reminiscent of both a totemic sculpture and an imaginary architecture.
Column of Time is presented as a vertical memory: an abstract totem that does not belong to any specific culture, but that connects with the universal idea of the passage of time, of ascent, and of the symbolic order that is built in layers.
